So, some big news. I’m moving to the UK for university in just over a month’s time!
I really, really don’t want this to sound cliché, but this is going to be a life-changing and life-defining point for me. I’ll very likely be staying in the UK after I graduate - there’s little future for me in Hong Kong. Contact with my parents will dramatically decrease and yes, I will miss them a lot since we won’t have the luxury of travelling back and forth across the world to visit each other. I’ll have to learn to be independent like nothing before and frankly, I’m looking forward to the experience. A little nervous yes, I mean who wouldn’t be? But this is a very big step for me and I just hope that nothing goes catastrophically wrong.
I leave for the UK on September 23rd - from then on, I’ll be studying Human Geography and the Environment at the University of York. If there are any Opponauts around the Yorkshire region, I hope to meet you soon!

Good luck man! I’ve thought of moving away to find work, but I haven’t quite gotten up the gumption yet...who knows, maybe I will end up there one day as well! Would love to have a job at a museum somewhere as I have a History degree and an Education degree, but it’s not easy to find them... :(

On behalf of Her Majesty Queen Lizzie da 2nd I welcome you to our stormy rock in the North Atlantic. I should of organised an exchange since after our continual dreary summer with highs of 18°C, I could use some tropical sunshine.

Potentially silly question: how did you end up there?

I went to an international school, so most of the students tend to study in other countries after they graduate. I'm no different.

Welp, that makes a lot of sense. How do tuition fees etc look for you? Just asking out of curiousity, as I’m currently looking for a next ep. in my life in edumacshun mysel. I’d be class’d under
EU nationals
, tho. Handicapped in that respect as well, as in coming straight out of continuation edu, so I’m less likely to be thrown money at. :D

Hideously expensive, even though I’m an EU citizen too. International fees will apply to most UK universities unless you’ve been living in the UK/EU zone for the past three years, which I haven’t. First year for me will be £19,500, excluding accommodation and living costs. However that is for a course that does require lab work, so it definitely depends on what course and where you study.
